Mayuri of Mayuri's Jakoni invited us all to her Diwali Party this year.  Then she found out that she was actually going to be able to be in India with her mom for Diwali and that her kids and their families would be joining them for the celebration.  I am so happy for her and pleased to be able to help her out by taking over some of the hosting duties.

Diwali celebrates the triumph of good over evil.  This year it is being celebrated tomorrow, October 24th.  Traditionally, family and friends gather to share special foods and sweets.  I love learning of other cultures through their foods and traditions so I was thrilled when Mayuri invited us to celebrate this special holiday with her.

Let's take a look at what everyone brought to the party today......

Crunchy Chickpea Masala

Whenever I have a celebration I always invite my guests at least an hour before I plan to serve dinner so we have time to relax with a cocktail and catch up with each other.  I make sure that there are snacks and/or appetizers available to stave off the hangries and absorb some of the alcohol if they are imbibing.

So I chose to make an appetizer for today's Diwali celebration and I am so glad that I did.  These little guys are very addictive....fair warning.  You may want to make a double batch if you are having a large gathering.

I went light on the spice because my husband is not heat tolerant.  Next time I will make two batches, mild and a little spicier for me and other's who like a little bite.
