Korean Grilled Flank Steak #BBQWeek

This post is sponsored in conjunction with #BBQWeek. The sponsors, Rainier Foods and Intensity Academy, generously provided samples to participants to aid in the creation of the #BBQWeek recipes and prize packages to give away to the readers. However, all opinions are mine alone.

Flank steak tenderized in a marinade seasoned with Gochu and grilled to a perfect medium rare.  Serve this steak with a side of rice and some stir fry veggies, dice it up and add it to a bowl or slice it up and pass the tortillas for a deliciously different taco.

Korean Grilled Flank Steak

We are still celebrating BBQ Week.........
This is the third recipe I am sharing for this annual event hosted by Christie of A Kitchen Hoor's Adventures.  On Monday I shared a Lebanese recipe for Beef Kafta and yesterday I served up some Asian Ribs

Korean Grilled Flank Steak

Today we are heading to Korea and grilling up this steak that was flavored with an amazing Gochu seasoning of Roasted Garlic and Chile peppers from one of our sponsors, Rainier Foods.  Speaking of Rainier Foods, you have an opportunity to win a wonderful package from them by entering the raffle that you will find at the bottom of this post.

You can learn all about Rainier Foods and visit them on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.  I can tell you that I was very pleased with the Gochu used in this recipe and will be recommending it to all of my readers, family and friends who enjoy Asian flavors.  What I liked most about it was that it was not overly spicy hot.  My husband is very spice sensitive so it is always a crap shoot when I am making a dish with chiles.  Let me tell you......he loved this steak.

Korean Grilled Flank Steak

Flank steak tenderized in a marinade seasoned with Gochu and grilled to a perfect medium rare. Serve this steak with a side of rice and some stir fry veggies, dice it up and add it to a bowl or slice it up and pass the tortillas for a deliciously different taco.
Prep time: 5 MinCook time: 10 MinInactive time: 30 MinTotal time: 45 Min

Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. brown sugar
  • 3 T. canola oil
  • 3 T. soy sauce
  • 1 T. sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 jalapeno, seeded and minced
  • freshly ground pepper, to taste
  • 1 t. ground coriander
  • 2 T. Gochu seasoning and rub
  • 2 lbs. flank steak

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the brown sugar, canola oil, soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, jalapeno, pepper and coriander. Reserve 1/4 cup of this marinade and pour the rest into a large plastic bag that seals closed.
  2. Add the Gochu seasoning and rub and shake the bag to combine. Add the steak to the bag, press out the air and seal the bag. Massage the steak in the marinade until completely covered and set aside to marinade at room temperature for 20-30 minutes.
  3. Preheat a grill to medium high heat. Remove the steak from the marinade and place the steak directly over the heat source for about 5 minutes per side for medium rare. Discard any marinade still in the bag.
  4. Remove to a cutting board and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing and serving with reserved marinade for dipping.
