Cheers to 2021......2020 Don't Let The Door Hit You On The Way Out #ItalianFWT

I don't know about you but I cannot wait for 2021.  More specifically, I cannot wait for 2020 to get the hell outta town!  So when Cam of Culinary Adventures of Camilla invited us to join her in sharing the Sparkling Wines of Italy I couldn't think of anything better to celebrate than the end of this horrid year.

Toasting
I'm hoping some of the others are sharing happy posts to celebrate today.  We could all use a little Christmas cheer.........
Wine and Advent Candles

I had ordered up this bottle of Santa Margherita Sparkling Rose for today's event.  I had originally invited my sister and her husband to stop by.  I was going to make up some appetizers, pop open this wine and celebrate as we haven't seen each other in months.

But I awoke this day with a bad case of doldrums and they just got worse as the day proceeded.  I canceled out on my sister and I went to bed for a nap.  When I awoke, I was still unsettled and not myself.  I couldn't put my finger on exactly what was getting to me.  Several stressful situations are happening in our lives right now and this pandemic just makes it worse.

Sparkling Wine

I placed the wine on the table near my Advent Wreath Cross to remind myself that there is a light at the end of this tunnel.  Christ will see us through these times and Christmas is on the way to remind us of just that!!  I decided to change my attitude and went in to start dinner.  Frank opened and poured us each a glass of this Sparkling Rose and came into the kitchen to assist with dinner.

This wine is gorgeous.  It is dry and fruity and tickles the nose when you take a sip.  It's hard to be sad when you are drinking a festive wine such as this.  A blend of Chardonnay and Glera with a touch of Malbec, it is delicious on it's own.  I think it would be awesome with the seafood appetizers I had planned to serve my sister.

Sparkling Rose

We finished ours with a dinner of Roasted Chicken with Greek Salsa, Roasted Baby Potatoes and Roasted Butternut Squash.  This is a food friendly wine so the pairing was fine but I had wished I hadn't canceled my sister after all.  I would have loved to have cheered in 2021 with her at my side.  I think I'll give her a call and see if they are free to join us tonight for dinner.

I will be joining the others for Twitter Chat this morning at 11 AM ET to talk about the wines they opened.  We would love for you to join us.  You will find us by following #ItalianFWT.  Cheers!!!

  1. Reaching out and giving you a big hug Wendy! Yep, those doldrums and stressful family situations are no fun, I've had them a few of them both this year thus understand.

I've never seen an Italian sparkling wine with Malbec, intriguing. Perhaps you'll have an opportunity to pop it again along side the seafood and enjoy with your sister ;-)

  2. I know you're having a tough time, my friend. But there is light at the end of the tunnel...always! Until then, lift a glass (this was a great choice!) and know that if I were there, I would give you a great big, non-socially distanced and responsible hug! XOXO

  3. I feel you Wendy...it's tough all around, but bubbles do indeed make us happy, and I too keep reaching for "Reason for the Season" and try to forget about all the other crap going on in the world! Buon Natale.

  5. Ah, the doldrums. I'm glad I'm not alone with those. I'm glad that those delicious bubbles cheered you!

While you didn't plan to pair with the roasted chicken dinner, it sounds like it was a delicious match. I'm really on the pink bubbles train these days!

Thank you for your honesty, sharing a feeling that many of us are having. It's always so good to know that you are not alone.
