Well I guess I will be going now...

Last night, while we were having our yoga class in the basement, Frank was in the kitchen making us dinner. Suddenly Mom walked into the kitchen and said "Well I guess I will be going now" and started walking towards the front door.  Frank asked where she was going and she told him she was going home.  He tried to explain to her that she lived here but she was having none of that and informed him her real home was right down the street.

He then tried to convince her that he was making dinner for her and she should at least stay until after she had eaten.  She thanked him but informed him that she wasn't very hungry.

He offered her a glass of wine....THAT ALWAYS WORKS....not last night.  She said "no thank you, I really need to be going".

He finally told her she shouldn't leave without saying goodbye to me and sent her down the basement stairs.

So here we are, in the middle of a down dog and we hear Kim say "Well Hi Gladys, want to join us for yoga?"  Mom said no that she would just sit and watch.  So she perched herself onto one of the pool table stools and proceeded to watch all of us twist and turn.

That was fine until she started having a sneezing and coughing fit, so when Savasana began I crept over to take Mom upstairs.  For those of you that have never done yoga, Savasana is also known as the corpse pose, and is done at the end of the session.  It is a time when you are supposed to be totally and completely relaxed.  Not conducive to Mom's hacking and sneezing.  I whispered, very quietly to Mom that I was going to take her upstairs.  She responded very loudly "What, what did you say?"  I motioned for her to be quiet and to come with me and she yelled " I don't have any idea what you are trying to say".  I took her by the hand and helped her down off the stool.  As we began walking towards the stairs Mom started asking "what about all these people?  Are you just going to leave all these strangers down here?"

When I finally got Mom upstairs she sat down on the couch and picked up her glass of wine.  Then she looked at me and said "Oh, are you home already?"

  1. Classic!!! So funny in so many ways and scary too. You never know when they are going to need your watchful eye and clever ways. I hope tonight is less eventful on the mom front.

    1. It will be for me Lisa, Tuesday nights my Mom stays with my sister LOL. My family is great. My sis keeps mom on Tuesdays and one weekend each month and my bro keeps mom on Thursdays and one weekend each month. And of course my bro in CA keeps Mom for a couple of months each year. They are trying to keep me sane so they don't have to keep mom full time LOL

  2. OMG You two ladies have more patience than I think I would ever have. Just taking care of Richard's physical needs and his 'sometimes' bouts with dementia is enough to make me want to check into the loony bin myself
