Quit Crowding Me!!

Today is Five Minute Friday.  This is where a group of us gather for a writing exercise hosted by Lisa Jo Baker.  Lisa gives us a one word prompt and then we write whatever comes to mind from that prompt for five minutes flat.  Then we stop.  We don't spend time over thinking or editing. We just share our thoughts.  Please join us.

Today's prompt is CROWDS.

GO

I really don't like crowds.  I don't mind large parties that I host where I know everyone but I dislike being anywhere where you are going to be jostled, pushed, shoved, etc.

I think it must be as a result of working as a cop for 25 years.  The first thing we did when we retired was move to 12 acres in the middle of a small community.  There are no crowds.  If we go to the mall we go north from here.  There are no crowds.  If we go to the movies we go in our own little town or to a matinee. There are no crowds.  We made the mistake of going shopping last Saturday...There were crowds....I am used to going during the week and during the day when perhaps there is a handful of people other than myself.  I am not used to having to watch out for people walking into me because they are looking at their cell phones instead of where they are walking.

Even our Lord would need to get away from the crowds and find a quiet space for himself.

STOP

  1. I can relate to the desire to avoid crowds. My husband and I typically had date night on Tuesdays and the movie theaters would be near empty. Now going out on Friday nights everything seems jam packed. Hi from a fellow FMF writer. :)

    1. Hi Jen, thanks for stopping by. Tuesday nights are typically our date nights also. It is the night my sister takes my Mom but we still often hit the matinee because it is so much less expensive.

  2. I so understand this! I don't like crowds either. Well, unless I can find a quiet place to just sit and watch. My favorite all time activity when I am out in public is to people watch!

    1. Yes I love people watching too as long as I am not in the thick of it.

  3. I am sorry to sound so ancient, but I don't think it's just the crowds - it's the behavior of those people in the crowds. The cell phone obsession, the entitlement, the guy with 500 items in the express lane. I remember going to the Cleveland Browns game every year with my daddy and feeling lifted by the crowd as we crossed the bridge into the old stadium. It was packed (today I might be a little scared), but people were more respectful as a whole - looking out for one another, not trying to get 2 inches in front of the next guy. But I'm with you - shopping on a Saturday better be for some life-saving something to get me out there! Stay home tomorrow where it's safe and enjoy your 12 acres!

    1. You are right Lisa, people are like little islands unto themselves anymore.
